Advent Appeal 2016
Our Advent appeal this year will be to support the work of Manchester Children’s Hospital. We have chosen this charity in memory of Dylan Crossey, who was cared for by the hospital at the end of his life. It is hoped that the whole school community will really get behind our fundraising effort, as a fitting tribute to a sadly missed pupil, and as a way in which we can turn our attention to those in greatest need this festive season.
ONE BIG TOY
In previous years, donations of toys have been received to be distributed as Christmas presents to children who are spending Christmas in the hospital. However, this year the hospital are inviting us to get behind their ONE BIG TOY appeal, which will help make a difference for every child, every day – not just the ones who are well enough to play with a doll, a train, or an X-Box this Christmas.
They would like to convert an old storage room at the far end of the children’s cardiology and respiratory ward (ward 85), into a fully equipped multi-sensory room so that families with very poorly children can enjoy some much-needed space away from the very clinical ward environment.
The room will give poorly children a place to go and chill out when they’re feeling anxious about having treatments and surgeries. It can be a place to have fun, jump around and let off some steam after feeling confined on the ward. Or it can be a place for seriously ill children and those with restricted movement to relax, stimulate the senses and take their mind off their pain.
It is believed that the average family spends £312 per child on Christmas presents. This, then, will be the fundraising target figure for each year group, contributing to a whole-school fundraising target of £1560. Forms are asked to be as creative as ever with your fundraising efforts! As with the extremely successful whole-school appeal for Lent (which made a very impressive £5050 for CAFOD) the fundraising activity does not have to take place solely in school. Pupils are invited to go out into their local communities with their families and friends, raising awareness for this very worthwhile cause, and to have fun while they fundraise!
CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY
On Wednesday 21st December, the last day of term, pupils and staff are invited to come to school wearing a festive jumper, or a similar item of festive clothing for a £1 donation. This is a really simple and fun way to raise a significant amount of money for such a worthwhile cause.
