Curriculum Overview
Curriculum
At All Hallows, pupils study 30 lessons per week. Every lesson comprises 50 minutes, with the exception of Period 5 which lasts 55 minutes in order to incorporate afternoon registration.
In Years 7 and 8, pupils have the following curriculum:
- RE – 3
- Geography – 2
- English – 4
- History – 2
- Mathematics – 4
- P.E – 3
- Science – 3
- Art – 1
- Languages – 3
- Music – 1
- Technology – 2
- ICT – 1
- Guidance programme – 1 lesson per week
In Technology, pupils study 5 separate disciplines within Technology on a ‘carousel’ system. They are:
- Electronics
- Food
- Graphics
- Resistant Materials
- Textiles
In Year 9, pupils have the following curriculum:
- RE – 3
- Geography – 2
- English – 4
- History – 2
- Mathematics – 4
- P.E – 3
- Science – 4
- Art – 1
- Languages – 3
- Music – 1
- Technology – 2
- ICT – 1
In Technology, pupils study ONE of the 5 disciplines for the whole of the year.
At the start of Year 10, pupils begin their public examination courses.
The curriculum is split into CORE and OPTIONS subjects as follows:
Core Subjects – studied by all pupils
- RE
- English Language
- English Literature
- Mathematics
- PE
- Careers Education & Work Related Learning
- Citizenship
- Personal, Social & Health Education
- Science – some pupils study the Single Sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics(This will mean that they do not choose a subject from Option Block 3.) Others follow a Dual Award Science course, which includes elements of all three separate Sciences.
Options – pupils must choose ONE subject from every option block:
OPTION 1 – German, French, ICT
OPTION 2 – Geography, History, Music, Technology
OPTION 3 – Art, Geography, History, Performing Arts, Triple Science
OPTION 4 – Art, Computing, German, ICT, Performing Arts, PE, Technology
Vocational Courses of either Construction or Health & Social Care can be studied in place of Option 1 and Option 3 choices.
N.B. – English Baccalaureate(EBacc)
In order to complete this qualification. Pupils need to attain at least a Grade C GCSE pass in English, Mathematics, 2 Sciences, MFL and either History or Geography. This will clearly impact on the choices many pupils make at the end of Year 9.
